Christian Influencer Solomon Buchi and netizens all around the world have raised eyebrows at the recent 2024 BET Awards, as Nigerian artiste Tems wins Best Gospel/Inspirational Prize, at the ceremony.

Temilade Openiyi’s Me & U beat big stars such as Kirk Franklin, CeCe Winans, Maverick City Music, and others to land the prize held at the Peacock Theatre in Downtown Los Angeles on Monday.

However, lots of people have come to question BET Awards. As many stated they that categorizing gospel music as inspirational, is to undermine the power of the gospel.

Reacting to this development, Solomon Buchi stated via his Instagram page saying;

“It’s worrying that Tems won the BET Best Gospel/Inspirational category of the year. She edged out Kirk Franklin, CeCe Winans, Maverick City Music and others.

“Gospel music is not inspirational music. Gospel music is believer edifying, Jesus glorifying and God praising. Mentioning God in a song doesn’t make it gospel. The metrics for gospel music should be stringent.

“Categorizing gospel music and inspirational wasn’t a mishap; it is an intentional attempt to undermine the power of the gospel. Any skilled musician can write an inspirational, but that isn’t the gospel. Stop Liberalizing the gospel.

“This is why i’m skeptical about award shows for gospel ministers. The system is flawed and spiritual impact cannot be measured by human systems. Write songs, sing to the glory of God and God will reward you. Human award systems are corrupt. It’s mostly a popularity contest.”
