The Conference of Diocesan Priests of India (CDPI) has launched a housing project to aid victims of the recent ethnic and communal riots in Manipur. The project aims to build new homes for families who lost their homes during the riots and is part of the CDPI’s 2024 National Council Action Plan ¹. Each housing unit is estimated to cost around Rs 4 lakh (approximately $4,900 USD) and the project is expected to be completed by February 2025.
The CDPI has initiated a fundraising campaign to raise money for the project and has challenged each member of the clergy to contribute at least Rs 500 (around $6.10 USD). The funds collected will be handed over to the Archdiocese of Imphal, who will oversee the project ¹. The housing project is not only aimed at rebuilding physical structures but also at strengthening the bonds within the priestly fraternity and making a positive impact on the lives of those affected by the riots ¹.
