The Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, the US branch has recorded a victory in a defamation lawsuit involving a US-based Nigerian blogger, Ashekun.
The case which was decided in Baltimore County Circuit Court, revolved around a YouTube video in which Ashekun allegedly defamed the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM), and its General Overseer, Dr Daniel Olukoya. The church was awarded $50,000 in damages.
The church branch pastors in the USA, Grace Ugeh, Kunle Ladipo, and Adekunle Adekola, had filed a suit against Ashekun over a YouTube video.
According to the suit, Ashekun’s YouTube video portrayed the church and its pastors as sexual abusers.
While giving judgment in favor of MFM, Justice Theresa Adams, in suit number C-03-CV-22-004424 awarded $50,000 to MFM against Ashekun.
Reacting to the court’s decision, the church counsel, Gilbert Gracia said that the church has been gratified. “Church was gratified that the jury found in favor and vindicated our position”.
This was disclosed by an aide to the General Overseer, Collins Edomaruse.
