73 Years of Devotion: Merseyside Sunday School Teacher Sets Guinness World Record

Pam Knowles, a dedicated Sunday School teacher from Merseyside, has shattered the record for the world’s longest-serving person at the same institution, earning a well-deserved spot in the Guinness World Records. For an astonishing 73 years and 104 days, Pam has been teaching three-to-five-year-olds every Sunday at St Anne’s Church Aigburth, surpassing the previous record of 70 years held by a woman in the United States. Her remarkable journey began in 1951, and her commitment to education and faith has been unwavering.

Pam’s achievements extend far beyond her record-breaking tenure. She served as Sunday School Superintendent for over 40 years and has been a longstanding member of the Parochial Church Council (PCC). Her dedication to the church and its community is evident in her various roles, including accompanying the church choir on tours across the UK and Europe. Pam’s passion for teaching is contagious, and her love for the children she teaches is palpable. “I just love the children. I love telling stories,” she said, highlighting her enthusiasm for sharing biblical tales with her students .
To celebrate this milestone, St Anne’s Church held a special ceremony, presenting Pam with gifts from the congregation and a token of appreciation from the Education Team at the Diocese of Liverpool. The diocese praised Pam as “a remarkable role model and a real hero” in the eyes of the Diocese of Liverpool, acknowledging her tireless efforts to inspire children week after week. As Pam continues to teach, her legacy will undoubtedly continue to touch the lives of multiple generations.
